Chucherias Hondurans and Happy Hour

A weekend getaway to Daytona Beach was just what my best friend and I needed after a grueling week at work. Arriving at The Bahama House on Friday evening, we spent the day Saturday enjoying the sand and the sun located just steps away from our spacious and well appointed room. At the recommendation of a friend who lives locally, for lunch, we ventured to Chucherias Hondurenas, a delicious Honduran restaurant just ten short minutes away from the hotel by car. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a large outdoor seating area and a beautiful interior featuring authentic terracotta furnishings and dark wood full service bar. Although I was tempted to order my usual at such restaurants, a Cuban sandwich, I decided to be adventurous and try steak pupusas. Luckily, I was not disappointed. The meat pastries and cheese filled tortillas were complemented by a light and delicious cabbage salad. I was also extremely excited to enjoy their fresh mango juice, just one of many drink options (including a large liquor selection) on the menu. My dining companion did go with the Cuban sandwich and enjoyed it immensely. She also enjoyed blackberry juice, which she let me sample – it was equally as delicious as the mango. A delicious surprise ended our meal – complimentary dulce de leche cookies… filled with delicious homemade caramel. What could be better?! Nothing complimented our delicious and filling Honduran meal better than laying out by The Bahama Houses’ pool. The pool is spacious and allowed us to spend a relaxing afternoon in the Florida sunshine.

After a relaxing afternoon in the sun, we were excited to enjoy the Bahama House’s complimentary social hour, which features delicious Bahama Mamas and freshly popped popcorn…amongst other drinks and snacks (including a full liquor selection). We loved talking to Sandy, the Bahama House employee who provided us with delicious drinks and great conversation along with it. After such a filling lunch, we decided to head for a light seafood meal at The Ocean Deck for dinner…more about that later!
